The respiratory therapy and ventilator program at Coral Desert Rehabilitation are designed to give patients the best achievable quality of life.
The respiratory team at Coral Desert Rehab features:
- 22 dedicated private room ventilator unit led by board-certified pulmonologist well known to the Southern Utah community
- High flow in wall oxygen and suction
- Focus on increasing mobility and weaning dependence whenever possible
- 24-hour respiratory therapists
- Nurse practitioner and MD team on our unit daily for medical interventions
- Speech therapy for bedside swallow evaluations and communication strategies
- Physical and occupational therapy to increase endurance and ability
This dedicated team and equipment ensure we are providing both quality care and maintaining the highest standards for our ventilator and tracheostomy patients.
How is Coral Desert’s ventilator care different?
Our dedicated pulmonary ventilator unit includes an interdisciplinary team of dedicated respiratory therapists and nursing staff with decades of experience. We take pulmonary rehab to another level, with the resources and expertise to care for patients with tracheostomies (trachs) and ventilators (vents). We’re the only program of its kind in Southern Utah.
What does this mean for my loved one?
Ventilators may sound scary, but they are specialized equipment commonly used to facilitate breathing following illness or injury. Ventilator patients include those suffering from neuromuscular and pulmonary diseases, head traumas or strokes. An interdisciplinary team including respiratory therapists; physicians; nurses; pulmonologists; dietitians; occupational, physical and speech therapists; social workers and recreation therapists work together to ensure the quality of life for our respiratory care residents. For some patients, that may mean giving them the opportunity to speak or be mobile while still on the ventilator; for others, it may mean weaning them from the ventilator altogether.
Memory Care
Our professionals can reduce the stress and anxiety of being in a new environment for either a short-term rehabilitation or a permanent residence. The advanced Integrated Cognitive Program is instrumental in formulating the best care for our patients living with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Our Integrated Cognitive Program combines a standardized functional cognitive assessment of the patient with a relevant inventory of their daily life details, to help us develop a more-complete understanding of each individual under our care. By matching these two data sets in a meaningful way, we can better tailor our individualized therapy programs and care to the patient’s specific needs.
